William Paterson University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology, which includes serving as PsyD Program Director. The position begins Fall 2022. 

 

Reporting to the Psychology Chair in the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, this position includes teaching graduate and undergraduate and supervising and mentoring graduate students in the PsyD Program in Clinical Psychology. The incumbent will assume the PsyD Program Director position upon hire. The area of expertise is open. NJ licensure is required. Research and service engagement is expected.

 

The Program Director advocates for the PsyD Program, oversees the budget, admissions, accreditation processes; implements administrative policies; schedules courses; hires adjunct faculty; and otherwise ensures the smooth running of all aspects of the program. The Program Director works directly with students, resolving their issues and concerns.

 

Department overview:

 

The Psychology Department is composed of dynamic and engaged faculty. Offering separate BA, MA, and PsyD degrees.  The Psychology Department serves a diverse population and is one of the largest departments at William Paterson University.

 

The Department strives to offer opportunities for students to apply classroom knowledge to a variety of real-world situations. Hands-on laboratory experiences give students a chance to design and conduct their own research.

 

Established in 2015, the PsyD Program is currently accredited on contingency by the APA, and completed the site visit for full accreditation in December 2021. The PsyD program is currently comprised of 45 students and 4 core faculty members.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 

Teaching and Administrative:

 

  • Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in multiple modalities; ability to teach online or willingness to learn to teach online. Teaching at least one course a semester in the PsyD program is a contractual requirement of the PsyD Program Director as this is a faculty position.
  • Develop course content, objectives, and methods of student assessment; participate in formal course and program learning assessment.
  • Provide students with consistent and effective support and guidance through role modeling, mentoring and advising.
  • Contribute to student success through curriculum and program development and management.
  • Perform other teaching or teaching/administrative duties as assigned, depending on departmental needs.
  • Provide leadership to the PsyD program in collaboration with the faculty, department chair, dean, and other university units and personnel.

 

Scholarship:

 

  • Maintain an active and productive scholarly and publication record.

Service:

  • Participate in department, college, and/or university level committees and activities designed to enhance instructional processes and/or programs and services.
  • Serve on graduate student committees.

 

 

Required qualifications:

 

  • Earned doctorate in Clinical Psychology, School/Clinical Combined, Clinical Neuropsychology, Forensic Psychology or Counseling Psychology
  • NJ licensure to practice psychology or eligible to apply for New Jersey license to practice psychology; another State license will be acceptable with expectation that the applicant will apply for NJ licensure as a clinical psychologist within 6 months of hire.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching.
  • Demonstrated record of scholarly productivity.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Prior experience as a program director or director of clinical training.
  • Knowledge of and experience with current APA accreditation standards.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and influence peers in a complex and diverse environment with competing wants and needs.
  • Capable of prioritizing work to meet agreed upon goals and timelines.
  • Ability to think critically and work effectively according to standards within the context of established norms, rules, policies, and procedures.
