JOB SUMMARY 

 

William Paterson University invites application for the 12-month full-time position of Graduate Advising and Professional Enhancement Coordinator within the Division of Academic Affairs at The Cotsakos College of Business.

      

Reporting functionally to the Dean of The Cotsakos College of Business (CCOB) and dotted-line to the Director of Graduate Programs and to the Assistant Director Enrollment Growth and Professional Enhancement, this 12-month position requires taking a strategic and administrative approach to working collaboratively with the Office of Graduate Admissions, the Registrar’s Office, the Career Development Center, as well as department chairs and other campus offices to implement initiatives that enhance the educational experiences of graduate and undergraduate students at William Paterson University.

 

The Graduate Advising and Professional Enhancement Coordinator supports the onboarding, advisement, and retention of graduate students; manages the academic progression data for graduate students and administers the daily operations of the professional enhancement (PE) program for undergraduate students and other programs within the Cotsakos College of Business that support student retention and engagement.

The College continuously strives to elevate the quality of its programs and develop new offerings to meet the changing needs of students as they navigate emerging professional fields of study.  The College offers baccalaureate degrees in the functional business disciplines of Accounting, Finance, Financial Planning, Global Business, Marketing, Management, and Professional Sales, and graduate programs in a range of disciplines including Business Analytics, Finance and Financial Services and Sales Strategy.

 

 

 

 

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Assists with the academic advising of incoming and current graduate students on course selection and registration, including suggesting course plans, issuing course waivers and overrides, and advising on-campus MBA students considering transferring to the WP Online MBA program. 
  • Manages the academic progression data and implements the independent study registration process for graduate students. 
  • Assists the AOL Coordinator with assessment of undergraduate programs and continuous improvement initiatives for undergraduate programs as it relates to the Professional Enhancement (PE) program within the relevant framework of AACSB standards; including implementing methods to assess students’ needs, interests and performance in the PE program; monitors and tracks stakeholder engagement in, and the results of, PE activities. 
  • Administers a portfolio of co-curricular and experiential learning opportunities, assisting graduate and undergraduate students in their search for appropriate and impactful opportunities in collaboration with the Career Development Center and other internal and external stakeholders.   
  • Works with the Career Development Center and Registrar's Office to ensure that co-curricular and experiential learning activities are properly implemented and recognized. Updates Associate Dean on issues that may merit intervention. 
  • Coordinates logistical and administrative processes for the supplemental instruction and peer mentoring programs and student activities such as the Beta Gamma Sigma honor society and student organizations. 
  • Administers the daily operations of the undergraduate professional enhancement (PE) program, including maintaining accurate records for the PE program of student information, up-to-date procedural guidelines, application and qualification processes, schedules, dates and deadlines, standard forms and agreements, expectations for students, employers, advisors, and administrators.  
  • Communicates with students about PE opportunities, records and reports students’ participation in PE activities, events and co-curricular and career-related outcomes.
  • Attends and as required represents the college at meetings, events and conferences.  
  • Performs other duties as assigned that are appropriate for the position. 

 

 

Required qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Appropriate fields of study include business, marketing, psychology, communication, public relations, student affairs, or other related field.
  • Two (2) or more years’ experience in career services, human resources, marketing, or related field.
  • Knowledge of and proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office software.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule which may include evening and weekend
  • Experience, or proficiency, and willingness to work in an online environment.

 

Additional, preferred qualifications:   

  

  • Master’s Degree.
  • Proven track record of engaging diverse student populations in co-curricular and experiential learning opportunities.
  • Experience in an academic setting.
  • Track record of successfully advising students in a college setting. 
  • Proficiency in the use of the Banner Enterprise System, and social media channels.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a diverse audiences in both verbal and written format.
  • Demonstrated commitment to service quality and customer satisfaction. 
  • Capable of listening to many points of view without bias.
  • Ability to prioritize work to meet agreed upon deadlines.
  • Able to steadily persist to an agreed upon goal despite difficulty or roadblocks.
