William Paterson University invites application for the part-time grant position of STEM Transfer Success Coordinator.

 

ASPIRE = Access to STEM Pathways through Integrated Research and Engagement

 

Reporting to the ASPIRE grant Project Coordinator, the STEM Transfer Success Coordinator assists the ASPIRE Project Coordinator in working with the Admissions Office and the Director of Transfer Programs and Special Sessions to facilitate the transition process for transfer students from Passaic County Community College (PCCC) to William Paterson University (WP) with attendant academic supports for those cohorts. 

 

The incumbent works with PCCC and WP grant coordinators and offices to identify and select students for participation in the grant STEM Summer Bridge Research programs. The Stem Transfer Success Coordinator provides individualized support, connects students to resources at both institutions, facilitates a transfer plan, and works with the project management team to coordinate project activities associated with transfer students and the Summer Bridge Research Programs. 

 

The incumbent spends 50% of their time at PCCC with a specific focus on supporting students as they complete STEM degrees at PCCC and begin at WP.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Serves as a liaison between WP faculty, PCCC faculty, and the WP Admissions Office to support prospective community college STEM students through the following:

  • Academic and Career Planning
  • Scheduling
  • Access WP and PCCC support services including tutoring and supplemental instruction
  • WP campus visits
  • Registering for WP courses, assist students in the financial aid process, and summer bridge research programming

 

• Participates in the Joint Work Group to facilitate the transition process for transfer students from PCCC to WP with attendant academic supports for those cohorts.

 
• Works with the Director of Transfer Programs and Special Sessions and ASPIRE Project Coordinators to give transfer students access to academic and non-academic supports.
 
• Advises students on the courses they need to stay on track to graduate PCCC and transfer to WP in a timely manner using the course maps found in the new STEM 2+2 articulation agreements as a guide.
 
• Works with WP Admissions Office and PCCC to select students who will participate in the grant’s Summer Bridge Research Program from among newly admitted students.  
 
• Works with Co-Project Director responsible for STEM academic programs, WP Student Success staff, Faculty Research Mentors, and other WP units specified in the ASPIRE project on scheduling and conducting the activities of the Summer Research Program.
 
• Participates in monthly meetings to coordinate project activities in line with timelines and budgets, to integrate project activities into existing initiatives, and review progress toward project objectives.
 
• Performs other duties as assigned by the ASPIRE Project Coordinator, Office of Admissions and the Director of Transfer Programs and Special Sessions that are appropriate for the position.

 

 

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience working at an institution of higher education.  
  • Demonstrated experience with presenting information to diverse internal and external audiences.
  • Proficiency using online technologies and ability to learn and adapt to new tools.

 

Preferred qualifications:

  • Admissions, recruitment or academic advising experience.
  • Ability to speak Spanish.

 

Personal attributes and traits:

  • Ability to prioritize work, set reasonable timelines and attain agreed-upon goals.
  • Able to dissect a problem into its parts and, using critical thinking and analytical and problem solving skills propose results driven solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in written and oral format.
  • Capable of working collaboratively in a complex organization with stakeholders who may have competing needs and wants.
