William Paterson University invites applications for two (2) full-time tenure track positions as Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science within the College of Science and Health, one of the four comprehensive and diverse colleges at the University. 

The Department of Computer Science offers a comprehensive program in both the theory of Computer Science and its applications.  Our hands-on Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology (IT) and our internationally accredited (ABET) Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science (CS) prepare students for graduate studies and a variety of 21st century careers.  We encourage faculty to support students in research facilitated by our on-site, state-of-the-art computing technology. 

Assistant Professors in Computer Science are an integral part of a thriving and energetic department that is committed to excellent college-level teaching, proactive and innovative classroom activities, engaging scholarship and research production, and essential departmental functions. Professors are responsible for ensuring that undergraduate students graduate with the requisite skills to go on to graduate studies or secure employment as programmers, system analysts, software engineers, database administrators, network and security specialists, computer scientists and much more.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Teach assigned coursework per departmental need, online, hybrid, and in-person
  • Take responsibility for course- and program-level learning outcomes by implementing University and College level philosophy, curriculum and course objectives in the classroom; participate in assessment activities
  • Develop innovative teaching approaches that support student learning; proactively monitor student outcomes; provide timely feedback; flag issues in a timely manner
  • Participate in departmental and college level activities
  • Serve as a positive and professional role model for students; proactively assisting in their professional and social development
  • Stay up-to-date on changes in pedagogy, research, careers, and other advances within the discipline
  • Maintain a strong record of scholarship in the field

 

 

Required qualifications:

  • Earned Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Information Technology; (advanced ABD candidates who meet all other criteria may be considered for initial appointment at the rank of Instructor but must complete the terminal degree by March 1 after year of hire to be considered for reappointment).
  • Teaching experience and demonstrated commitment to higher education
  • Evidence of scholarship / research productivity
