William Paterson University seeks applications for the title of Security Officer in the Department of Public Safety.

 

Providing a safe and secure community is the highest priority of the men and women who serve as members of the University Police Department. Staffed by Police, Security Officers, Student Patrol, and other support personnel, the University Police Department provides a variety of services and employs measures intended to enhance the safety of the University community. Members of the Department are committed to working with faculty, students, and staff to maintain the quality of life and a high degree of security and safety enjoyed at William Paterson.

 

There is an entry-level vacancy in the Department of Public Safety in the title of Security Officer with an opportunity for career growth into the Campus Police Officer Recruit title.

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

 

Providing assistance and protection to persons and property in and about our University, maintaining orderly conditions, and taking the measures required to assure observance of the law; does related work as required. 

Required Qualifications:

  • The selected candidate must possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills and the ability and desire to work with a diverse population.
  • Candidates selected for the position will be subject to background verification.
  • Note: If hired, the applicant will be assigned to one (1) of three (3) shifts, including weekend evenings.
  • Requirements include graduation from high school or vocational school or possession of an approved high school equivalent certificate.

 

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • May require sitting/standing for extended periods of time. 
  • May require lifting moderately heavy objects.
  • May be required to work outdoors in varied and possible extreme weather conditions.
